Adding silicon carbide whiskers to the resin bond diamond wheel

The addition of silicon carbide whiskers can greatly improve the strength, hardness, heat resistance, and polishing properties of the bonding agent and the grinding wheel. Recently, a company in Japan has introduced a product in which a silicon carbide whisker is added to a resin bonded diamond grinding wheel. Silicon carbide whiskers have unique mechanical and physicochemical properties such as high hardness, high strength (toughness) and excellent wear resistance, which are widely used in the strengthening and toughening of metals, ceramics, plastics and composites to improve compounding. The strength of the material prevents shrinkage and deformation.

The shape of the silicon carbide whisker is acicular, especially its Vickers hardness is close to that of diamond and it has good toughness and wear resistance. Compared with the abrasive grain, even if the diameter is the same as the abrasive grain size, there is a certain length of whisker and bonding. The agent has a relatively large bonding area and bonding strength, thereby greatly increasing the service life of the grinding wheel.
